DSI Explores Collaboration with The Hungarian Arbitration Association

Budapest, Hungary | CYBERNUSANTARA1.ID — The Indonesian Dispute Board (IDB) / Dewan Sengketa Indonesia (DSI) marked a significant milestone in its European diplomatic mission with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hungarian Arbitration Association (HAA) on Thursday, 12 February 2026, in Budapest.

The agreement forms part of DSI’s broader international visit across Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary, aimed at expanding institutional partnerships and reinforcing Indonesia’s presence in the global arbitration and dispute resolution community.

The MoU establishes a framework for long-term cooperation in arbitration development, professional exchange, capacity building, and the promotion of internationally aligned dispute resolution standards.

Hungarian Arbitration Association Welcomes Strategic Partnership

Representatives of the Hungarian Arbitration Association (HAA) expressed strong support for the collaboration, describing it as a forward-looking initiative that bridges Europe and Southeast Asia in the field of arbitration.

“This Memorandum of Understanding reflects our shared commitment to strengthening international arbitration networks. Indonesia is an important and dynamic economic partner, and cooperation with DSI opens new pathways for professional dialogue and institutional collaboration,” a representative of HAA stated.

HAA emphasized that global trade and cross-border investment require reliable and harmonized dispute resolution mechanisms.

“By formalizing cooperation with DSI, we aim to promote best practices, knowledge exchange, and the development of arbitration professionals capable of addressing increasingly complex international commercial disputes,” the Association added.

Legal Diplomacy and Investment Confidence President of the Indonesian Dispute board Prof. Sabela Gayo, S.H., M.H., Ph.D., CPL., CPCLE., ACIArb., CPM., CPArb., CPLI., described the MoU as a strategic step in Indonesia’s legal diplomacy framework.

“This agreement represents more than institutional cooperation. It is part of Indonesia’s broader strategy to integrate our arbitration ecosystem with established European institutions, ensuring credibility, neutrality, and global recognition,” Prof. Sabela stated.

He underlined that Hungary’s strategic position within the European Union makes the partnership particularly valuable.

“Strengthening ties with the Hungarian Arbitration Association enhances mutual confidence between Indonesian and European business communities. It provides assurance that cross-border disputes can be resolved through transparent and internationally respected mechanisms,” he explained.

Prof. Sabela further highlighted the importance of human capital development within arbitration.

“We envision joint conferences, arbitrator exchange programs, research collaboration, and professional training initiatives. Our goal is to elevate arbitration standards in both jurisdictions while contributing to a more connected global dispute resolution system,” he said.

Concluding his remarks, Prof. Sabela emphasized the economic dimension of arbitration diplomacy.

“A robust arbitration framework reinforces legal certainty, which in turn strengthens investor trust. Through this MoU, Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to becoming a trusted hub for dispute resolution in Asia,” he concluded.

The Budapest signing reinforces DSI’s mission to build sustainable partnerships across Europe and position Indonesia as a credible and globally integrated dispute resolution center. Through structured institutional cooperation, DSI continues to align its arbitration practices with international standards, supporting cross-border commerce and long-term economic diplomacy.
