VIENNA | CYBERNUSANTARA1.ID — The Indonesian Dispute Board (Dewan Sengketa Indonesia/DSI) has launched a high-level international legal mission across Central and Eastern Europe, covering Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Croatia, from 1 to 15 February 2026. The visit underscores Indonesia’s growing commitment to strengthening legal diplomacy and reinforcing international confidence in its arbitration and dispute resolution framework.
The mission represents a strategic effort to position Indonesia as a credible and reliable partner in global trade and investment, particularly through the promotion of international arbitration, mediation, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms. By engaging with key legal institutions and diplomatic representatives, DSI aims to align Indonesia’s dispute resolution practices with internationally recognized standards.
As part of the European agenda, DSI held an official meeting with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Vienna on Monday, 2 February 2026. The meeting focused on strengthening coordination between legal institutions and diplomatic missions in advancing Indonesia’s legal interests abroad, particularly in relation to cross-border investment protection and commercial dispute settlement.

President of the Indonesian Dispute Board, Prof. Sabela Gayo, S.H., M.H., Ph.D., CPL., CPCLE., ACIArb., CPM., CPArb., CPLI., emphasized that this international engagement reflects Indonesia’s proactive role in shaping a rules-based global economic order grounded in legal certainty and professional arbitration.
Statement of Prof. Sabela Gayo
Prof. Gayo stated that DSI’s European mission is a concrete manifestation of Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law as a foundation for sustainable economic growth and international investment confidence.
She underlined that in today’s interconnected global economy, arbitration institutions must not only be technically competent but also diplomatically engaged, ensuring that dispute resolution systems are trusted, transparent, and internationally credible.
According to Prof. Gayo, Europe—particularly Central and Eastern Europe—offers valuable insights into mature arbitration practices, institutional independence, and ethical governance, which are essential benchmarks for Indonesia’s continuous legal development.
She further emphasized that collaboration with diplomatic missions such as KBRI Vienna is crucial to ensuring that legal diplomacy and economic diplomacy move in tandem, especially in safeguarding Indonesian business interests and attracting quality foreign investment.
Concluding her remarks, Prof. Gayo expressed optimism that this mission would foster long-term strategic partnerships, strengthen Indonesia’s international arbitration profile, and elevate the country’s standing as a regional hub for dispute resolution in Asia.
