BRATISLAVA | CYBERNUSANTARA1.ID — The Indonesian Dispute Board (Dewan Sengketa Indonesia/DSI) is undertaking a high-level international mission across Central and Eastern Europe, covering Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Croatia, from 1 to 15 February 2026. The visit represents a decisive step in strengthening Indonesia’s legal diplomacy while reinforcing international confidence in its arbitration and dispute resolution ecosystem as a pillar of global investment certainty.
This strategic mission reflects Indonesia’s growing role in the international legal arena, particularly in promoting arbitration, mediation, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as effective mechanisms for resolving complex cross-border commercial disputes. Through engagement with diplomatic missions and legal institutions, DSI aims to align Indonesia’s dispute resolution framework with global standards and best practices.
As part of the Slovakia leg of the mission, DSI held an official meeting with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to the Slovak Republic (KBRI Slovakia) on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, in Bratislava. The meeting focused on strengthening coordination between Indonesia’s legal institutions and diplomatic representatives in advancing national interests related to trade, investment protection, and international dispute settlement.

President of the Indonesian Dispute Board, Prof. Sabela Gayo, S.H., M.H., Ph.D., CPL., CPCLE., ACIArb., CPM., CPArb., CPLI., emphasized that the European mission underscores Indonesia’s commitment to a rules-based international economic order founded on legal certainty, professionalism, and institutional credibility.
Prof. Sabela Gayo stated that DSI’s international mission is an integral part of Indonesia’s broader legal diplomacy strategy, aimed at ensuring that investment flows are supported by trusted and enforceable dispute resolution mechanisms.
She emphasized that arbitration today is not merely a legal instrument, but a strategic component of economic diplomacy, enabling countries to project credibility, predictability, and confidence to global investors.
According to Prof. Gayo, Central and Eastern Europe offer valuable lessons in institutional governance, arbitrator independence, and procedural efficiency, all of which are essential references for strengthening Indonesia’s arbitration framework.
She further noted that close collaboration with Indonesian embassies abroad, including KBRI Slovakia, is critical to ensuring that legal diplomacy operates in harmony with economic and political diplomacy, particularly in safeguarding Indonesian commercial interests overseas.
Concluding her remarks, Prof. Gayo expressed confidence that this mission would generate long-term partnerships, enhance international recognition of Indonesia’s arbitration institutions, and reinforce Indonesia’s position as a leading alternative dispute resolution hub in Asia.
